There’s nothing I love more than imagining a world where every kid is happy, included, and has a chance. I’m not going to attempt to write anything profound, but it’s something that has been on my mind more and more lately, especially as my girls are navigating elementary school. One of the (many) things I love about being on Laura Kelly‘s Design Team is that I get the chance to create pieces that are colorful, kid friendly, and happy. This Colorful Kids Canvas Artwork definitely fits the bill!

- Sizzix Big Shot Plus
- felt in a variety of colors
- Big XL Die – Peeps, Girl
- Big XL Die – Peeps, Boy
- paint in blues, greens, and white
- red marker
I stacked three pieces of felt at a time and rolled them through my Sizzix with each die. I got a perfect cut each time!
When I was finished cutting out my felt pieces, I pulled out my canvas.
I chose greens, blues, and a white. I wanted a basic grass and sky look.
With each color, I used streaky strokes. I didn’t want perfect coverage. I layered on the paint and finished with the clouds.
When the paint was dry, I pulled out all of the fun felt pieces.
It took no time at all to create a line of rainbow kids.
When all of the kids were glued down, I started playing with their accessories. This is such a fun line and I had a blast putting outfits together.
The final step was simply to draw smiles. I can’t get enough of these happy peeps and I love the idea of smiling kids holding hands. As I was making this, I kept having sappy thoughts and I daresay you’ll be seeing many more creations with these dies from me.
This Colorful Kids Canvas Artwork was easy to make, but I’d like to think that there’s more to it. I will forever love the image of kids from all over smiling and holding hands. I want my girls to grow up including and being friendly to others. I currently have this hanging over the girls’ art table and I smile every time I see it. I’m thinking of this canvas as a permanent reminder of how we should be.
