I LOVE feature walls (if you haven’t learned that about me yet!). They’re a fantastic way to bring in fun accents that you may love, but don’t want to have everywhere. Feature walls personalize your home and give you the opportunity to experiment. I loved Madeline’s Gold Striped Feature Wall so much that I wanted to bring some gold into my side of our office. I have been eyeing the Uzma Circles Stencil from Royal Design Studio for ages, and decided that this was my chance to use it.

Our office is a semi-enclosed space in our bedroom. My desk is against one wall and Scott’s is opposite mine, with a window on the third wall. The wall on my side is painted a dusky purple. I originally thought that I would paint the entire wall before creating the Uzma Circles Stencil Wall Feature, but I really wanted it to pop and decided to stick with the purple.
I wanted my feature to be off center. I’m going to be hanging some things on the wall, so I figured out where I wanted them and placed my stencil where it would make the most impact.
And, of course, the first time I put it up, I put it on backwards. Always check that your stencil is on correctly before you start painting! Once I had it corrected, I started painting. I used Royal Stencil Creme in Bright Gold and the 2″ Allover Stencil Brush.
It took three coats of painting to get the bright gold that I was after. The paint and brush were such a dream to use, though, that it took no time at all to paint a coat. Here’s the first coat:
I used the dabbing method for my first coat. I’m always afraid of bleed. I did follow the recommendation to dab a paper towel to get excess paint off the brush, and this may be the best stenciling tip I’ve ever read. For the final coat, I did use the swirling method to give it a cleaner finish.
I had originally planned on using the stencil all the way to the floor, but as I got lower, I really liked how the lamp illuminated it and decided to finish it off with some scattered circles sending just above my desk.
I LOVE how my Uzma Circles Stencil Wall Feature turned out. The paint is gorgeous in all the different lights, but I especially love waking up and seeing the way it pops in the morning sun. I love this feature wall so much that I have plans to use the Uzma Circles Stencil in at least three other places around the house. Stay tuned!
