Loopy Yarn Candy Cane Wreath

There is an unspoken rule that when you see a candy cane wreath form, you need to make a candy cane wreath. This rule especially comes into play during the Christmas crafting season. There are many ways you can create your candy cane, but interesting yarns are always a right choice. This loopy yarn candy cane wreath is crazy easy to make and fairly inexpensive (if you have a coupon for the yarn). It’s a fun piece of handmade decor to add to your Christmas cheer.

Supplies:

large Dollar Tree candy cane wreath form
scissors
Bernat Alize Yarn in Crimson and in White (I got mine on sale at Joanns or you could use a coupon–there’s almost always a coupon to use)
hot glue gun (optional, I did use it for one section)

Instructions:

Start by pulling the yarn around the outer wire section through and tie it in a knot.

Then add a thin line of hot glue to the bottom section of the wire wreath form and press the yarn on top to secure it. If you don’t do this the yarn will not have anything to secure itself to.

Then loosely wrap the yarn around the wreath form. I wrapped the red section first until I hit the first wire cross section.

I next added the white yarn by repeating the same process of pulling the yarn around the outer wire section through to the inside and tying it in a knot. Wrap the white section around the wire wreath form until you hit the next wire.

Pull the red yarn tightly along the backside and then start wrapping around the wire wreath form. Repeat this rotating between the red and white yarn until you reach the end of the wreath form. Change colors when you reach each wire cross section. You can obviously make the stripes smaller if you wish–the cross sections just make it an easy place to switch.

At the end of the wreath, wrap the yarn around and trim off the yarn. I pulled the end yarn piece through one of the loops and tied it in a knot. You can secure the end piece of yarn with some hot glue to the wire wreath form.

This loopy yarn candy cane wreath is a super fun craft that doesn’t take long to make at all. You can hang it from the wreath form itself or use a secured loop from the yarn.
