Let It Snow Hoop Art
The holidays just call out for hoop art and I haven’t made any in quite a while. Hoops are among my favorite things to make, so it’s weird that I’ve gone this long without making any. When I saw these snowflake sequins from Buttons Galore & More, I knew this let it snow hoop art needed to happen. It’s a fun project to stitch up and love how it turned out.

Supplies:
- fabric (I used a glitter fat quarter from JoAnn’s)
- blue thread (I used Hand-Dyed by Rolanda in Sapphire)
- DMC Etoile in BLANC
- Let it Snow pattern (image below supply list-click on it, download it to your computer, and print)
- washable marker/pen (I used Cricut Washable Fabric Pen)
- needle
- scissors
- 6″ embroidery hoop
- white paint
- glitter Mod Podge
- Winter Mix Sequin Tin from BGM Box
- felt for backing
- glue
- small tinsel garland (this is similar)
Instructions:
Print out the pattern. When you print, double check that it’s the right size for your hoop. Place your fabric on top for tracing. If you can’t see the pattern well enough, go over it in marker. Trace the pattern in the washable pen.
Stitch the pattern as if you are writing it so that the stitches flow. I used a stem stitch, but you can use the stitch of your choice.
Rinse the fabric in water so that the marker is removed.
Paint the outside of the hoop in white, following with the glitter Mod Podge.
Use the inside hoop as a template to cut a piece of felt to fit. I used a regular pen and followed the inside of the circle.
When the hoop is dry, place the fabric back into the hoop. Stitch snowflakes around the fabric using the etoile thread. I stitched around each “spoke” of the snowflakes to create a star in the middle.
Trim the excess fabric into a circle that is big enough to fold on the inside of the hoop. Place the felt circle on the back of the hoop. Glue the inside of the back, tucking in the fabric as you go.
Glue around the front of the hoop where the two hoop pieces meet. Place the garland on the glue.
I’m so happy with how my let it snow hoop art turned out. You can’t go wrong with that gorgeous variegated thread and those perfect snowflakes. I love the hint of sparkle everywhere. It goes without saying that this will be displayed all winter (and will probably be the only “snow” I see this year!).
