Easy Dollar Tree Pumpkin Candles

Have you ever stared at those pillar candles at Dollar Tree (or elsewhere) and wondered just what you can do with them? They aren’t especially pretty but do have a lot of potential. While I only have super basic candle-making skills, I can pretend that I’m pretty uber with this simple tutorial. These Dollar Tree pumpkin candles are a fun and easy way to transfer those pillar candles into a pretty vessel.

Supplies:

  • 2 ceramic pumpkins from Dollar Tree (I got one in orange and one in white)
  • 2 orange pillar glass candles (from Dollar Tree in the candle section)
  • pot to use on the stove and pot holders (the candle glasses will be hot)
  • scissors to trim the wicks
  • skewers or sticks to hold the wicks

Instructions:

Put both candles into the pot and fill with water as high as you can. Turn on the stove to medium heat. You want to slowly melt the candle–too high and too fast messes with the wax (don’t ask me why–magic, I think!). Bring the water to a slow boil, melting the candles down to liquid form.

Slowly remove the wicks from the glass candles and set them to the side. Be careful not to burn yourself!

Once the candles are completely melted, remove them from the heat.

Drip a bit of candle wax onto the bottom of the ceramic pumpkins. Place the metal end of the wick you’ve removed on top of the wax to hold it in place. Use two skewers to keep the wick in place.

Pour the remainder of the liquid candle wax into the ceramic pumpkin until you reach the desired height. I used the entire melted candle in each ceramic pumpkin–it happened to fit. I honestly would have liked a bit more wax for each, but I misjudged the size. Repeat the process for the other pumpkin if making two.

When the wax has set, trim the wick to your desired length.

Imagine the possibilities with this craft! Any fun ceramic vessel can become a candle! You get empty jars out of it too, and you know how much I love crafting with those. If the candle isn’t scented, you can add a scent of your choice. These easy Dollar Tree pumpkin candles are just a fun craft to make and will really add to your decorating for any season.
