Blue Medley Yarn Weaving

It is a transitional time for us right now. Scott started a new job that is remote work based, so he’s working from home. Life has become insanely busy for me while we’re working toward some family goals, which has meant I’ve needed to significantly cut down on the blog–for now. I’ll admit that I’m struggling a bit. I love my blog and I love making. This forced downtime is helping me to figure out just what I want my end goals to be and what I want to do. For a while, I got caught up in taking every job that was offered, even if they weren’t good fits. The end result of that was that I struggled and wasn’t happy and my work showed it. There are things I love–I love stitching and yarn and fabric. I love creating with all of them, but I’m super slow and in the past I pushed them aside to work on sponsored projects that didn’t really make me happy. While I’m clearing out my craft room, I’m trying to take the time to work on what I love, even if it takes me a little while. I came across a bunch of different kinds of blue yarn in my stash and thought it would be fun to put them all together in a weaving. My Blue Medley Yarn Weaving was so relaxing to work on this week .

I’ve always been a collector of craft supplies–to the point that I would get super overwhelmed walking into my craft room because there was just so much. The blue yarn that I pulled together was what was left after a couple of ruthless cullings. In the future I will be more deliberate in what I keep in my craft area.

I’ve always enjoyed weaving. Like most kids, I made a ton of woven potholders. I loved choosing colors and making patterns. With this weaving, I tried to just let the different yarns flow.

I wanted some mixed texture tassels, so put two different yarns together.

I never work weavings in order. I had some smaller bits of yarn and wove a couple of those in first, then filled the bigger sections with the yarn I had the most of.

I love seeing the different textures and colors next to each other. It’s fun to see a weaving grow.

My weaving was reminding me of a night sky and I wanted to put some stars in it. I started by trying to weave some star ribbon through the center, but I didn’t like how it was looking and it was really difficult for me to work with. In the end, I put them across the top. I wanted a bit of a rustic look to my weaving and the stars added that bit of sparkle I love in my projects.

I have visions of filling my house with things I’ve made. I haven’t done such a great job of it so far, but a lot of things are changing for us this year and I’m determined to make our house what we want.

Madeline and Pippi want a space themed room, so maybe my Blue Medley Yarn Weaving will go in there. While I may not know exactly where this will hang, I do know that making my peace with slow projects has made me very happy.
