Easy Crochet Sunflower Earrings

I’ve been on a bigger than usual crochet kick lately. I still think of myself as a beginner (maybe even advanced beginner), and have mostly stuck to blankets, scarves, and triangle shawls. As I get more confident, I’m attempting to write projects down in an understandable pattern (unlike my lampshade cover, which wasn’t a pattern at all). These easy crochet sunflower earrings make a great beginner crochet project. I tried to be detailed with the steps, but since this is a new-to-me kind of craft to post, please please please let me know if something doesn’t make sense.

Supplies Needed:

Just a quick note–I made these as sunflowers, but you can make any color flowers you want! Also, while I used embroidery floss, you can use a super fine weight yarn–just nothing too bulky. You’ll want these earrings to be light and not massive.

How To Crochet Sunflower Earrings:

Step 1: Starting with the brown thread, wrap the thread over the hook. Then chain 4 loops.

Step 2: After you make the loops push the hook through the first loop. Then grab the thread and pull it back through both loops.

Step 3: Do a half-double stitch all the way around the chained stitches. There should be a total of 5 half-double stitches. Half double is done by looping the thread over the hook, then pushing the hook through the stitching. Loop the thread over the hook again and then pull it back through one loop. Loop the thread over the hook again and pull it back through all three loops. If you have trouble with my description, there are plenty of YouTube tutorials on how to make the half-double.

Step 4: When you have made it all the way around, push the hook through that first starter loop. Wrap the thread over the hook and pull it back through that loop.

Step 5: Cut the thread leaving a 1 inch or so tail. Then tie off the thread by pulling it through the loop.

Step 6: Pull the yellow thread through that last joint of the brown and tie it off.

Step 7: Then push the hook through where you pulled it through. Loop the thread over the hook and pull it back through to make a starter loop.

Step 8: Push the hook through the next brown loop, grab the yellow thread and pull it back through both loops. Then chain 1.

Step 9: Repeat step 8 until you have made your way all the way around. When you get back to the start push the hook through your first starter loop, wrap the thread around the hook and pull it back through both loops.

Step 10: Chain 6. Then push through the yellow stitching, wrap the thread over the hook and pull it back through and through the end loop.

Step 11: Keep repeating step 10 working your way all the way around. Your beginning and ending petals will share loops on the circle. You should end up with a total of 19 petals when you have made it all the way around.

Step 12: When you have finished your petals cut and tie off the thread. Trim off any other threads if you have not already done so.

Step 13: Open the jump ring and run it through one of the ends of a petal and then through the fish hook earring. Then using the pliers, pinch it closed.

I *think* I can call these easy crochet sunflower earrings. Any time I can finish a crochet project in a reasonable amount of time is easy to me. These earrings are fun for anyone–they’d make a great gift or beginner craft show project. Make them in a variety of colors to fit your mood!
