Easy Dollar Tree Christmas Centerpiece

I say it all the time but you don’t always need to spend a fortune to make fun crafts. Looking around discount shops for good craft supplies is a great way to get ideas and inexpensive materials. This easy Dollar Tree Christmas centerpiece is a great example of a craft that I didn’t go in intending to make but love how it turned out. The craft section of the store comes alive at Christmas and while these supplies may not be exactly the same year to year, you’ll be able to find something similar.

Supplies:

Dollar Tree gold plastic tray
2 packages of green floral foam- get the kind that is a darker green (sometimes they have 2 kinds)
hot glue gun
wire cutters
2 pine bushels
1 bushel of lambs ear
2 stems or bushels of burgundy poinsettias
1 stem of pinecones (you can get these from your yard if you have them!)
I had a Dollar Tree wooden frame sign but you could use a piece of wood or cardboard for the base

All of these supplies came from Dollar Tree except for the hot glue gun and the wire cutters. If you’re wanting to make this Christmas centerpiece but can’t find the exact supplies, you can find similar items from Amazon or other craft stores (but you may pay more).

Instructions:

Start by removing all of the pine pieces, poinsettias, and pine cones from their stems with the wire cutters. Leave about 2 inches of the stem.

If you are using the Dollar Tree pine cones you will need to untwist the wire that is attaching the pine cone to the stem and then clip it with the wire cutters

I left the lambs ear pieces to cut and fill in at the end, but you can do it now if you’re on a roll.

Add hot glue to your base piece. If you are using a the framed sign like I did, the foam pieces fit right in. Add some hot glue to secure them. If using cardboard or wood, add some hot glue the whatever your base item is and add the foam on top. Finish this part by adding hot glue to the bottom of the gold tray and pressing it firmly onto the foam.

This next bit is all in the eye of the beholder. There’s no right or wrong way to place the flowers and decorative pieces. I suggest laying them out first and seeing what kind of placement you like. Play around with it! When you’re ready, add some hot glue to the ends of the stems and poke the stem into the floral foam. The hot glue is optional–I did it to make a more secure hold. I alternated between poinsettias and the pine branches and added the pinecones where I wanted more texture and color. Since the pine cones don’t have stems, add hot glue to the bottom side of the pine cone and press it onto the floral foam.

If you want to add some more texture and other color, pull the lamb’s ear pieces off of the stem (they come off very easily) and hot glue them to fill in spots around the centerpiece.

Top your easy Dollar Tree Christmas centerpiece however you want–I’m a big fan of candles and bottle brush trees. The birch candle I used is battery operated and from a Costco set. The faux snow and bottle brush trees are from Dollar Tree. Add more candles, use ornaments and bells…lights would be pretty, too! This is such a fun and customizable project that you’ll want to make more than one.
