Easy Valentine’s Hoop Brooch

If you’re ready for cute, this easy Valentine’s hoop brooch is for you–it makes even my cold heart happy. This is such a fun little project–the hardest part is picking out which button to use! With a scrap of fabric, a cheerful button, and a few minutes, you’ll have your new favorite Valentine’s Day accessory.

Supplies:

  • miniature hoop (mine is from Dandelyne–there are a lot of stockists online, just please don’t go to her actual website because it has been hacked)
  • piece of fabric (mine is Bee Plaids by Lori Holt for Riley Blake–I pulled from this but this would work, too)
  • Valentine’s button from BGM Box Valentine’s Value Pack
  • thread and needle OR wire cutters
  • glue
  • red paint
  • paint brush
  • bar pin back

Instructions:

Paint the hoop red.

Cut out a piece of fabric that is a bit bigger than your hoop.

I started by sewing the button onto the fabric but didn’t like how much the button stuck out (there’s no give with the wooden back of these hoops). To make it flat, I clipped the loop off the back of the button and glued it onto to fabric. I’ve included a picture of the difference in looks of the two options.

Place the fabric with the button onto the inside wooden piece (not the one with the notch). Center it as much as possible. Put the fabric and wood piece into the hoop.

Trim off most of the excess fabric and glue the rest onto the back.

Glue the back piece onto the hoop.

Glue the pin back onto the hoop.

I’m so tickled with how my Valentine’s hoop brooch turned out. It really is a fun little craft and you can’t help but smile. I have some more hoops and I’m really tempted to make more brooches–there are many more cute buttons to use!
