Plush Pom Pom Heart Wreath
I think Valentine’s Day can be a lot of fun. It’s never been a romantic holiday to me–it’s been much more for friends. Maybe it’s because I grew up with making the Valentine’s Day decorated shoe boxes in school and then getting to pass around the little cards and finishing the day with a few chocolates at home. At any rate, I still love seeing the pops of pink and red and it’s an excuse to craft with hearts, which isn’t one of my usual go-to shapes. This plush pom pom heart wreath is a fun Valentine’s Day bit of decor, but make sure you read on to find out how it was a bit of a craft fail, too!

Supplies:
- heart wreath form
- Bernat Blanket Extra Yarn in red
- Clover pom pom maker
- scissors
- Mod Podge Ultra
I really wanted a plush-looking heart, so I bought this super chunky blanket yarn. The visual result was exactly what I wanted, but the yarn was suuuuuper messy when I cut it. And when you’re making pom poms, you’re cutting a lot. There was red yarn fluff *everywhere*. I left a trail all over the house and I’m still finding bits after cleaning and vacuuming. So, be aware that if you use exactly the same yarn, there’s going to be a lot of clean-up. This isn’t at all to say that the yarn is bad–it’s just not really the right yarn for this project if you can’t get past the messy. I’ll also mention that I wasn’t able to pull the pom poms as tightly as I usually do because the yarn would break. I’m sure it’s beautiful for the blankets it’s intended for!
Instructions:
This one is easy–make a bunch of pom poms! It took me a skein and a half to make all of the pom poms I needed to cover my wreath form.
Starting with the outside ring of the wreath form, tie the pom poms on. I started with the points to make sure I didn’t lose the heart shape.
Tie the pom poms to the inner ring of the wreath form. Once you’ve finished, make sure everything is secure and trim any excess tails.
Because the pom poms were fraying and still causing a huge mess, I sprayed the wreath with Mod Podge Ultra. It did help, but I’d honestly just use a different yarn next time.
I really like how fluffy my plush pom pom heart wreath is–I just really wish it hadn’t been so messy. I love simple crafts, but it really loses something when the creating becomes more frustrating than fun. I’ll absolutely make another version and I’ll update here when I do!
