My love for Scotland has been on my mind lately and I wanted to create something to somewhat commemorate our time here. The Scottish thistle has been one of those favourite Scottish things that consistently jumps out at me, so I thought I would try my hand at stitching up a Scottish Thistle Cross Stitch Pattern. I’m pretty much in love with the result!

Supplies:
- Scottish Thistle Cross Stitch Pattern
- DMC 208, 209, 3345, 3347, C550, C890 (the étoile threads are from this set)
When I first stitched this up, I used a piece of scrap linen in my stash and then found a hoop that fit. I couldn’t tell you much about either one and I’m sorry because that’s the biggest question I get about this pattern. The hoop I used is 4″ and this is similar. If your finished thistle turns out to be bigger, there are sets of the oval frames in different sizes.
I used C550 and C890 (the lovely new Étoile range from DMC) for that subtle sparkle, but you can use 550 and 890 if you prefer.
This pattern is an easy stitch. It does have a neat twist, though–you stitch it on its side and then straighten the thistle when you’re finished, which means the “x” becomes a “+”.
I’m so in love with how my Scotland Thistle Cross Stitch Pattern stitched up. The bit of sparkle from the Étoile threads adds that special touch. Stitch one up for yourself or for the Scotland lover in your life! It makes a perfect little gift–I love little patterns that can be finished quickly.

Hi! I just checked and it opened for me, so I’m not sure how to help you troubleshoot. It opens to a new page and can be downloaded from there. Please let me know if it still isn’t working for you and I’ll see if I can figure it out.

Where did you get the hoop/frame?
It looks rally nice with this.

Hi there! Unfortunately it was just a random frame I had on hand. I think I actually got it at a yard sale with some other hoops! I’m sorry I couldn’t be more help!
